Wipe the glass with a soft microfibre cloth dampened with water or mild soapy water, then dry it with a clean, dry cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners or chemical sprays. To stop it fogging, switch the demister on before you shower.
An LED mirror is still a mirror, but it has a lit edge, touch buttons on the glass and an anti-fog pad behind it. That changes what you can safely clean it with. Everything in this guide comes from the installation guides and cabinet manuals that ship with our mirrors and cabinets, so it’s the same advice that comes in the box.

How to Clean an LED Mirror: the Routine
Damp cloth, then dry cloth. That’s the whole routine, and it’s the one printed in every guide and manual we supply.
- Dampen a soft microfibre cloth with water, or water with a little mild soap in it.
- Wipe the glass, including the touch buttons, which are part of the glass.
- Dry it with a clean, dry cloth.

What Never to Use on an LED Mirror
Nothing abrasive and no chemical sprays. Our mirror installation guides say it in one line: never use abrasive cleaners or chemical sprays. Water or mild soapy water on a soft microfibre cloth is all the glass needs.
How to Clean a Bathroom Mirror Without Streaks
Use a barely damp cloth and finish with a dry one. The drying step is the one people skip, and it’s the last step of the routine in our guides for a reason. A few habits help:
- Use a clean microfibre cloth for the glass, and a second clean, dry one to finish.
- Plain water is enough for everyday wiping; mild soapy water is the other option our guides give.
- Skip chemical sprays. Our installation guides say never to use them on our mirrors.
Cleaning the Touch Buttons and the Light
Wipe the touch buttons with the same damp cloth, then dry them. They sit on the glass, and water left on a button stops it responding. If a button ignores you after cleaning, dry the glass over it and touch it again.
Cleaning doesn’t reset anything. Our mirrors remember the colour and brightness they were set to before they were switched off. Never open the back of the mirror to clean it, and leave anything behind the glass to your licensed electrical worker.
How to Stop Your LED Mirror Fogging: the Demister
Switch the demister on before you shower. Each mirror and cabinet in the table below has a built-in demister, an anti-fog pad behind the glass, and our guides say switching it on before the shower gives the best result. How you switch it on depends on the model:

Swipe the table sideways to see every column →
| Model | How the demister works | Switches off |
|---|---|---|
| Amalfi, Santander, Lucca, Venice, Florence, Riviera, Positano, Portofino, Onde, Lune, Capri, Valencia | Three touch buttons on the glass: light, demister, Bluetooth. Press the demister button to switch it on, and again to switch it off. | By itself after one hour |
| Amalfi Ambient, Positano Ambient, Riviera Ambient | One touch button. The demister comes on with the light and goes off with it, so the glass stays clear whenever the mirror is lit. | With the light |
| Mirror cabinets: Milan, Madrid, Santander, Lucca, Positano, Riviera, Amalfi | Demister touch control on the mirror face. Press it to switch on. If the glass has already fogged, give it a few minutes to clear. | By itself after one hour |
The one-hour switch-off is designed behaviour, not a fault. If you need it for longer, press the button again.

What we see go wrong: switching the demister on after the shower, once the glass has already fogged. It will clear, but it takes a few minutes. Switch it on as you turn the shower on and the glass is ready when you are.
Steam, Fog and Ventilation
Run the exhaust fan during and after every shower. The demister keeps the glass clear, but the steam is still in the room. Our manuals note that poor ventilation shortens the life of any bathroom mirror. Our mirrors and cabinets are rated IP44 for the bathroom, and your licensed electrical worker confirms where on the wall they can go.
Cleaning a Mirror Cabinet: Doors, Shelves and Inside
The mirror faces get the same damp-then-dry routine. For the rest:
- Body and doors: a soft cloth with a little mild soapy water, then dry thoroughly.
- Glass shelves: lift them out and wash them in warm soapy water. Dry them completely before you put them back.
- Splashes: our cabinet manuals say to wipe toothpaste, soap and cosmetics as they happen; left to dry, they etch the surface.
- Touch controls: wipe, then dry the glass, or the button won’t respond.
What never to use on a mirror cabinet
Our mirror cabinet manuals spell out a longer never-use list for the cabinets:
Swipe the table sideways to see every column →
| Never use | Use instead |
|---|---|
| Ammonia-based glass cleaners | Water, or mild soapy water, on the cloth |
| Chemical sprays | A dampened cloth (never spray the glass) |
| Bleach and solvents | Mild soapy water |
| Abrasive cleaners and abrasive creams | A soft microfibre cloth |
| Scouring pads | A soft microfibre cloth |
| Steam cleaners | A damp cloth, then a dry one |
The manuals give the reason: those products attack the mirror backing and the demister film, and on our cabinets, damage caused by them isn’t covered by the warranty.
Why never spray a cabinet’s glass? Our cabinet manuals explain that liquid sprayed onto the mirror runs to the edges and gets behind the glass, where it lifts the backing. Put the water on the cloth instead.

Troubleshooting: Fog, Spots and Buttons
Swipe the table sideways to see every column →
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The mirror fogs after a shower | Demister switched off, or switched off by its one-hour timer | Press the demister button (Ambient models: switch the light on). Switch it on before showering next time. |
| The demister stops on its own | One-hour automatic switch-off | Normal. Press the button again if you need it longer. |
| A button doesn’t respond | Water or a smear on the glass over the button | Dry the glass over the button and touch it again. |
| Marks that won’t wipe off | Toothpaste, soap or cosmetics left to dry | Mild soapy water on a soft cloth, then dry. Never scrub or use abrasives. |

Common Mistakes
- Reaching for a chemical spray. Our installation guides say never to use chemical sprays on our mirrors. Water or mild soapy water on a microfibre cloth is enough.
- Scrubbing at dried marks. Use mild soapy water on a soft microfibre cloth; never use abrasive cleaners.
- Leaving the buttons wet. A wet button stops responding. Dry it after wiping.
- Waiting for the fog. Switch the demister on before the shower, not after.
- Showering without the fan. Poor ventilation shortens a mirror’s life, demister or not.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you clean an LED mirror?
Dampen a soft microfibre cloth with water or mild soapy water, wipe the glass and the touch buttons, then dry everything with a clean, dry cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners or chemical sprays. That’s the routine in every one of our installation guides and cabinet manuals.
Can I use glass cleaner on an LED mirror?
Not a spray cleaner. Our installation guides say never to use chemical sprays or abrasive cleaners on our LED mirrors. Water or mild soapy water on a soft microfibre cloth does the job.
How do I clean a bathroom mirror without streaks?
Use a barely damp microfibre cloth, then finish with a clean, dry cloth rather than letting the glass dry on its own. Use mild soapy water for toothpaste or soap spots.
How do I stop my bathroom mirror fogging up?
Switch the demister on before you shower. On our three-button mirrors and our cabinets, press the demister button; on Ambient models, the demister comes on with the light. Run the exhaust fan during and after the shower as well.
Why does my mirror demister turn off by itself?
On our three-button mirrors and mirror cabinets the demister switches itself off after one hour. That’s designed behaviour, not a fault: press the button again if you need it longer. On Ambient models it runs whenever the light is on.
Can I clean the touch buttons on an LED mirror?
Yes. They’re part of the glass, so wipe them with the same damp cloth, then dry them. Moisture on a button stops it responding; if one doesn’t react, dry the glass over it and touch it again.
How do I clean the shelves in a mirror cabinet?
Lift the glass shelves out and wash them in warm soapy water, then dry them completely before refitting. Wipe the cabinet body and doors with a soft cloth and a little mild soapy water, and dry them thoroughly.
